Jesus said, "I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty
and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I
was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I
was in prison and you visited me." (Matthew 25.35-36).
Children in Need
The church is situated
near the border of a transitioning neighborhood in Richardson. Part of our
local outreach effort focuses on the children at Dobie and Dover Elementary
Schools, with an annual school supplies drive in the fall and the
sponsoring of an Angel Tree at Christmas. We participate in the
Neighborhood Services Council, along with local police and fire
departments, to help make the neighborhood a safe and fun place for
children to play. Situated across the street from West Junior High School,
we make our facilities available for extracurricular sports and testing.
Each year we collect clothing and other supplies as part of Mike's Kids, a
North Texas Area-based direct-relief outreach ministry to the Good
Samaritan Mission in the Rio Grande Valley, along the Mexican border.
Habitat for Humanity
Richardson Area
Interfaith Habitat for Humanity was founded through the dedication of the volunteers
and ministerial staff of Community Christian Church over a decade ago. Now
run by volunteers from several dozen churches and religious groups in
Richardson, RAIH is participating in Dallas Habitat's Greenleaf Village build on Hampton
Road in Dallas. The current project lasts from March 1, 2003 until mid-May.
To participate, please contact the church office by phone at (972) 234-4571
or email.
Juliette Fowler
Homes
The mission of Juliette Fowler Homes
Inc. is to provide residential facilities, care and support for the
benefit of needy children, youth and elderly persons who may seek its
protection and aid, administering to their physical, moral intellectual and
spiritual needs, without regard to the ability of such persons to pay.
Members of Community Christian Church provide Board leadership, financial
support through regular outreach giving, and volunteers to lead quarterly
worship services in the Pearl Nordon Care Center chapel.
Network of Community Ministries
We provide direct food
and funding support to NETWORK, a community ministry supported by a
coalition of churches, religious, civic and social organizations,
businesses and individuals serving primarily needs within the Richardson
Independent School District. Over 200 volunteers have assisted over 100,000
families since 1986. Over 300,000 pounds of food are distributed annually
and more than 1,000 patients are seen by NETWORK'S Adolescent &
Children’s Clinic each year. Services include food, clothing, limited
financial assistance for rent and utilities, prescriptions, bus tickets,
and gasoline, referrals for doctors, dentists, counseling, car repairs,
shelter and more.
Greater Dallas
Community of Churches
GDCC is an
expression of the care and compassion of Christ and the unity of the church
in the eight county area surrounding Dallas. Our former pastor, Rev. David E. Cobb, served GDCC as
vice president for Christian Unity and Interfaith Relations, the program
unit that sponsors interfaith dialogues and plans ecumenical worship
services such as Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. GDCC administers the
Summer Food and Reading Program and advocates public policy measures that
promote children's health and education, racial reconciliation,
alternatives to violence, and economic opportunity.
CROP and Church World Service
In 2002, we were the host
church for the Richardson Area CROP Walk, a 4 mile trek that brought people
from over a dozen area churches together to raise over $5,000 for Church World
Service, more than double the amount raised the year before. Church
World Service provides international emergency relief and development
services.
The Hunger
Pantry
We have joined with two
other Richardson congregations to provide direct food aid to five different
emergency aid organizations. Ninety-nine cents of every dollar goes
directly to purchasing the food needed by Munger Place, Southeast Dallas
Emergency Aid Center, Good Shepherd Community Center, St. Vincent's Center,
and White Rock Center of
Hope. The Hunger Pantry is run by volunteer board members from Community Christian Church, First Christian Church, and Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church.
